Review: Fearing’s Restaurant in Dallas

If you’re looking for a date night destination or a grown up dining experience, look no further than Fearing’s Restaurant nestled inside the luxurious Ritz-Carlton in Uptown Dallas. We had an opportunity to dine there for my husband’s birthday dinner, a milestone birthday worthy of a weekend at the luxurious hotel accompanied by great food. I found both at Fearing’s Restaurant located at 2121 McKinney Ave, Dallas, TX 75201 which prompted this review.

Not a Bad Seat in the House

Fearing’s is the culinary child from Dean Fearing, author of The Texas Food Bible. Fearing blends unique dining experiences as well as he does dishes. We dined in the Gallery, a romantic and intimate large room with comfortable sofas and beautiful art pieces. There isn’t a bad love seat in the entire space. The people-watching happens in Dean’s Kitchen where you have a ringside view of your masterpiece coming together.

We Ate and Ate and …

Fearing’s features a full menu chocked with dishes that are more like experiences, a roller coaster of seasons and spices that will send your palette into overdrive. Nothing I tasted was simple and everything I had was superb. The barbecued shrimp taco featured above was unexpectedly delicious, and much larger in portions that I imagined. I almost regretted ordering my bone-in rib eye. That was, until it arrived and I tasted the savory sauce over medium prepared meat. Did I mention I ordered dessert, the double dark chocolate cake (a hit), like it was my birthday? Speaking of the birthday boy, my husband  feasted on the crab cakes. He went to undergrad and law school in Maryland so he’s a bit of a crab cake snob but he couldn’t find anything wrong with this dish. It was perfect. For his entree, he selected the Moroccan lamp chops, only pausing to remind me how fantastic it was. You know food is good when you can barely make conversation because … everything … is … so … good. It was so good, I was busy eating and not taking photos like a true blogger.

Exceptional Service

I can’t forget about the incredible servers who made the experience even better. I made the reservations over the phone, adding that it was my husband’s birthday. The servers, who worked as a team throughout the evening, greeted him immediately, wishing him a Happy Birthday. They were knowledgeable, helped us make selections based on our tastes and checked on us often, without being intrusive. At the end of dinner they served the a complimentary slice of chocolate birthday cake at the end of our meal. This was no ordinary birthday cake where you take the obligatory bite of then push it aside. It was dark, moist and coated with a Nestle Crunch-like candy. It was heavenly. And yes, so much so that I only remembered to take a photo when it was practically gone.
